THE REVELATION OF MISS WHITE.
A FACEBOOK DANCE MYSTERY.
MISS JESSICA WHITE
HAS A SECRET!
By day, she’s a calm and collected member of her village community who loves to chat. In the evenings, though, she gets somewhat cranky. She hasn't been sleeping well. And she’s been having the strangest of dreams.
A disturbing adventure, featuring a terribly proper English lady whose dreams begin to crack on her Facebook profile.
‘A unique, beautiful and creepy experience of dance & digital.’

THE CURATED ONLINE SELF.
In an elegantly disturbing tale hosted on Facebook, online viewers could follow and correspond directly with Miss White. Portrayed by company dancer Harriet Waghorn, over a three week period, you were able to interact with her directly as her perfect life slowly cracked and reached a climactic conclusion.
With over 19,000 Likes, video views and an international following, the project was specifically designed to test viewing habits, our understanding of online video, and advertising.
Behind the scenes, we were monitoring structured experiments in how we promote each video and the page itself.
Supported by Arts Council England, Corn Exchange and Cornerstone.

THE MAKING OF…
As a company, we question whether the time and effort artists put into creating contemporary dance work for a traditional performance space is really the future of dance. Yes, theatre’s have a place but in this ever-changing technological landscape shouldn’t we be trying to find new ways of talking and playing with our audience? How can we reach a wider audience and give them autonomy in their viewing experience?
It’s always on our minds how we can engage a new audience in our work. For this project, we switched our focus from face-to-face participation to an online only affair.
Facebook, if for one minute we just put to one side its pros and cons is, in essence, a global social network. The Revelation of Miss White was our first step in pushing the boundaries of interactive contemporary dance.
… A FRESH APPROACH.
GLOBAL ONLINE PARTICIPATION.
Facebook, if for one minute we just put to one side its pros and cons is, in essence, a global social network. The Revelation of Miss White was our first step in pushing the boundaries of interactive contemporary dance.
Anyone in the world could observe or interact with Miss White through text or photos using the Facebook platform. For three weeks our fictional Miss White profile page acted just like any other giving our audience a fresh way to be involved in a dance narrative.
We will always be on the lookout for ways that we can push the storytelling abilities of any platform or piece of technology so watch this space.

'We wanted to use Facebook as a platform for telling a story about that dissonance between your real-life and your online presence, taken to the limit.'
Pushed to extremes, it can reflect some pretty dark psychological issues.
