2012

A LARGE SCALE OUTDOOR DANCE SPECTACLE.

Tree of Light was a national Arts Council England supported ‘Legacy Trust UK’ project to create an unforgettable contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad using a large group of community performers.

NOCTURN joined various organisations including Henley Festival, Oxford Inspires, Ciao! Festival and Windsor Festival to create one giant project funded by £1.2m in grants from Legacy Trust UK and Arts Council England.

Four large scale public outdoor performances in Reading, Oxford, Windsor and Henley engaged local communities with dance led by international choreographer Charlie Morrissey, music from composer Orlando Gough and a set designed by well-renowned Block9.

ONE GIGANTIC AND AMBITIOUS TASK!

Artistic Director Charlie Morrissey’s vision: a 40-minute dance piece, taught to school & youth groups and adult community dancers from all walks of life. After performances in Oxford, Reading and Windsor, all three were brought together for one awe-inspiring performance at Stonor Park, Henley made up of 1,200 performers from 40 different community groups.

To achieve this vision Charlie collaborated with 10 professional choreographers - Sophie Arstall, Caroline Bridges, Debbie Camp, Leila Chebbi, Morgan Cloud, Paula Conduit,  John Darvell,  Aya Kobayashi, Fiona Millward and Rachel Palmer -  after creating the work together, we then led the delivery in our local schools and community groups.
